Symmetry and Crystallography in Turkish Art and Culture

Satellite Conference of the ECM-25

Istanbul, Turkey, 14-16 August 2009

On occasion of the XXV European Crystallographic Meeting in Istanbul, the IUCr MaThCryst commission, in cooperation with the CrysAC commission, has organized a Satellite conference on Art and Crystallography devoted to the analysis of the crystallographic aspects of Art and Culture in Turkey and neighbouring countries an regions like Middle Asia, Caucasus, Iran, Anatolia, Middle East, including carpet ornaments and kilim frames. The Satellite conference was completed by a workshop do it yourself and a short excursion.

The Organizers of the ECM-25 Satellite Conference on Mathematical and Theoretical Crystallography observed the basic policy of non-discrimination and affirms the right and freedom of scientists to associate in international scientific activity without regard to such factors as citizenship, religion, creed, political stance, ethnic origin, race, colour, language, age or sex, in accordance with the Statutes of the International Council for Science. At this conference no barriers existed which would have prevented the participation of bona fide scientists.
