The International School on Mathematical and Theoretical Crystallography was held on June, 20-24, 2005, at the Faculty of Sciences of the Université Henri Poincaré Nancy 1 (Amphitheatre No. 8).

The school was attended by 61 registered participants from 20 countries of 4 continents

Program

The purpose of the school was giving a solid introduction to different aspects of crystallography and crystal physics and is addressed to graduate students and young scientists, as well as to all those who wish to deepen their formation in the topics treated here. Each session consisted of a 1-hour lecture and 45 minutes exercises / examples.

Location

Nancy is located in the North-East part of France, 300 Km. East of Paris (motorway; 370 km. by train), 150 Km. West of Strasbourg. Trains from Paris to Strasbourg and vice versa, as well as several daily international trains running from France to Germany, Luxemburg and Belgium stop at Nancy (see the SNCF web site). The nearest airports are Metz Nancy Lorraine (domestic flights), Strasbourg International, Luxembourg International and Paris Charles de Gaulles & Orly.

The web site of the tourist office offers several useful information.

2005 is the 250th anniversary of the Stanislas Square, the main square in Nancy. Several events and attractions are schedule in this year. Up to date information are available at this website

Language

The official language of the School is English. No simultaneous interpretation was provided.



Financial Support

Thanks to the financial support we got from IUCr, ECA, Université Henri Poincaré, CNRS, Commaunté Urbaine Grand Nancy, and Bruker-AXS we have supported 22 students and young scientists from 13 countries, for a total of 8000 € in grants.

Special grants for French young scientists were provided by the Association Française de Cristallographie.
