ECM32 - XXXII European Crystallographic Meeting

MaThCryst Satellite Conference

Wien, Austria, 16 - 18 August 2019

The XXXII European Crystallographic Meeting will be held from 18 to 23 August 2019 in Vienna, Austria.

The IUCr Commission on Mathematical and Theoretical Crystallography (MaThCryst) plans to organise a Satellite Conference.

16 August, full day: Fundamentals of graph theory and its application to the description and interpretation of crystal structures.

17 August, full day: Modular structures, partial operations and space groupoids

18 August, morning: Contributed talks from the participants

The Satellite will be held at the Technische Universität Wien.

Registration and fees

Registration is now open at this address. Registration fees are 150 € and include coffee breaks and lunches.

Special issue announcement

Crystal Research and Technology Participants to the Satellite are invited to submit contributions to a special issue of Crystal Research and Technology that will be published on occasion of MaThCryst 2019 Summer events. Deadline for submission: 30 September 2019. To submit a manuscript of the special issue follow these instructions:
  1. Prepare your manuscript according to the author guidelines;
  2. Login at Editorial Manager (if you do not have an account, you can create one for free or login with your ORCID account);
  3. submit your manuscript by choosing "By Invitation Only - Mathematical Crystallography 2019".
Your manuscript will undergo a regular peer-review process and, if accepted, will be published as part of the special issue.

Poster presentations

Participants will have the occasion to present their work with contributed talks on 18 August, as well as with posters that will remain on display during the whole satellite meeting. Abstracts of both presentations must be sent by email to ; a template is avaiable here. Abstracts will be collected in advance and made available from the satellite website in electronic format. Articles issued from these presentations will be considered for the special issue mentioned above; manuscripts will undergo a regular peer-review process.

Financial support

Limited financial support for travel and accommodation expenses will be provided by the IUCr for young scientists. The financial support that will be provided will be in any case partial and there will be no money transfer: grants will be attributed on site. The following conditions apply for being eligible to receive a grant: Deadline for application: 7 June 2019.

Preference is given to those young scientists who have published in IUCr journals and to young scientists from developing countries, particularly in Latin America, Africa and South East Asia. Grants will be awarded under consideration of the IUCr statement on gender balance. Applications for financial support should be submitted by email to .

The Organizers of the ECM32 MaThCryst Satellite Conference will observe the basic policy of non-discrimination and affirmed the right and freedom of scientists to associate in international scientific activity without regard to such factors as citizenship, religion, creed, political stance, ethnic origin, race, colour, language, age or sex, in accordance with the Statutes of the International Council for Science. At this conference no barriers will exist which would prevent the participation of bona fide scientists.
